What is single malt whiskey called?
Single malt is whiskey made from only malted barley at a single distillery. Malted barley is first germinated, then dried and later mashed and cooked. In this process the starch in barley is converted into sugar. Which later gets converted into alcohol during the fermentation process. Single malt whiskey is usually matured in oak barrels. During this process of maturing, the whiskey forms an intimate relationship with the oak. Due to which the special notes and flavors of this whiskey are created. Its maturity time can be a minimum of three years and a maximum of any number of years. The higher the maturity, the higher the price. Recently, a bottle of Bowmore 1965 was sold for Rs 42 lakh in Mumbai Duty Free. Obviously, there is no dearth of fans of single malt. Rampur Signature Reserve has proved this once again.
